You made it through another week

Hey everyone. Thanks for waiting until the end of the week for this one. Let’s give it a listen, look at the lyrics, and then dive into how I wrote it right away.

Listen here:

Lyrics

You did it
You made it through another week
All by yourself

You made it through another week
All by yourself

You made it through another week
All by yourself

You made it through another week
All by yourself

You made it through another week
All by yourself

You made it through another week
All by yourself

How did I write this?

I started out with the happy little bass-line (like in last week’s post) and grew it from there. There isn’t a ton to this track, however, it is a good way to close off any week we have; especially if we’ve been having trouble with keeping our heads up when we’re working through our daily grind.

After the bass-line, I started humming different simple melodies and stumbled across the vocal melody that you hear. I then took those puzzle pieces and added lyrics to them. The melody really just repeats over and over, as do the words, while building in harmony until the ending where I used a delay effect to have the last word(s) bounce away. Here’s a screenshot of my Logic Pro project so you can start to figure out how to do it yourself:

If you want further details on how to get that delay effect in your Logic Pro project, contact me for a lesson.

The song wasn’t complete until I added the strings to fill out the harmony. The chords used in the string section were: I-vi-IV-V (1, 6, 4, 5, or C Am F G in C major).

Parting thoughts

There were a couple of tricks used in this track, but it’s pretty simple overall. You can make your own in similar ways, using similar chords, bass-lines, keys, and whatever else you may want or need in your own tracks. If you’re looking to improve your writing skills, and/or have been hitting some barriers, then it might be time to reach out to somebody like myself for lessons on how to take your abilities to the next level. Feel free to hit me up at [email protected] or by going to the contact me section on this website to book a lesson or package of lessons with me. As always, thank you so much for taking time of your busy schedule to take a look at my music and what I have to offer you on your own musical journey. I hope you’re doing well and remember, you made it through another week! Have an amazing weekend and I’ll be back with another post and song on Monday.

All the best,

– Matt
